Assault
Atari/Namco, 1988, 1 player, JAMMA class

I've been a little jealous of other people's Assault games, finally played this (again) for the first time about 3 months ago at an arcade in Puyallup (Van's on River Road), and inquired about buying theirs. Well, this isn't worth $600 to me, so I passed. A few months went by, and a guy on Ebay (Mike at Specialty Coin op in Portland) had some games for sale in Portland, about a 2.5 hour drive, so I asked if he had any more for sale- specifically Assault, Vindicators, XYbots, Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters. He replied with an Assault for a reasonable price - $300 as is, working fine. I accepted, sent a small deposit, and drove down a few weeks later. The side art is a little rough, and the screen has some smearing (cap kit), and the handles aren't the proper ones. But the control panel and surround are great, the cabinet is very clean inside, and overall I really enjoy this game, it's a great addition to my collection. Here are a few pics:

Here is a picture of the control panel. I'd like to put the grip style handles back on this thing, and Happ does sell handles for "Assault, Roadblasters..." . I may try removing the handles from one of my RB control panels and see if they'll mount onto the existing ones, they just don't feel quite right.

Another shot of the game, notice the smearing of the screen. I think this is a cap kit but am unsure. It's got a funky monitor and will probably go to Dick Millikan for a cap kit when he's got time (and I have money again!).I got the marquee lit again with a 12" bulb from Home Depot, searching hard found an off-brand (still made in Japan stamped on the bulb) for 1/2 the price of the Phillips bulbs near the front of the store.
